This months Nature Drinks events features Colin Dorber to talk to us about a movement to build a food and vegetable co-op in the Lockyer Valley preserving more food.
Colin Dorber
CEO and Chief Executive Officer
Colin Dorber brings 46 years of broad experience in policing, business,
employment law, complex investigations, mentoring, industrial relations,
advocacy, lobbying, public speaking and change management to the
project. With over 30 years in industrial relations and advocacy
practice, Mr Dorber has played a crucial role at both the federal and
state level, including for the Australian Federal Police Association, NSW
Forest Products Association, NSW Department of Health and the NSW
Nurses Association.
From 1989 to December 2000, Colin served as Manager, Member
Services and then Executive Director of the NSW Forest
Products Association, where he played a major role in achieving long
lasting commercial outcomes for the NSW native timber industry. He
represented the hardwood industry at both State level and subsequently in the federally sponsored Regional
Forest Agreements, assisted in the delivery of a AUD $120 million restructuring fund, and spearheaded the
delivery of some $80 million of that funding to his members through the restructuring of the NSW native
harvesting/logging industry.
Mr Dorber also boosted the value of the native forest industry by millions of dollars when he led the industry
team and achieved the granting of 20-year, fully tradeable commercial supply agreements, for timber
supplies from the Carr Government in 1998.
Having joined the NSW Police Force in early 1972 and during his 13 years as a serving police officer, Colin
earned a strong reputation for his related work within the Police Association of NSW, acting to protect the
interest of its then 12,000 members. Mr Dorber also lectured in law, teaching recruits and officers up to
Inspector rank at the NSW Police Academy. In 1985, Mr Dorber was commended for his “excellence in service”
by the then Assistant Commissioner [Personnel] of the NSW Police Force, Mr Angus Graham.
Since 2003, his company, Employment Advocacy Solutions Pty Ltd [EAS], has provided an annual employer
subscription service to over 150 companies in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. EAS provides advice
and representation at State and Federal levels on diverse areas of employment law, including workplace rights,
change management, HR issues, mediation, advocacy, dismissal, termination matters, training and
investigations, as well as court work.
As a resident of the Lockyer Valley, over the past 14 years, Colin has been the leading figure in the campaign to
build a new, world-class cannery in Grantham, Queensland. He was instrumental in bringing the current team
and Board of Directors together, and they have collectively brought the project to an investment-ready state.
Colin Dorber is a member of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia and the Australian Human
Resources Institute, and holds an Advanced Certificate in Professional Arbitration and Mediation
